Great Night at the GOMH
It has been very warm the last few days and so I wanted to get out. Couldn't last night with Dad getting home from the hospital. Today I had to go to the chiropractor again (I went yesterday) and then had to organize tackle for the Fishers of Men Fall Outing. I wasn't able to head out until well after 5PM, so I didn't take to boat but went to the GOMH with the intention of fishing there and at

GOMH Derby Fluke
This afternoon I wanted to get out to throw a Zoom Super Fluke and get more experience with the Trokar Flippen Hook. I headed out to the GOMH at about 5PM and started on the NE side. My first offering was the bubblegum Zoom Super Fluke and I caught a 12" jumpin bullhead right away. A little bit after that I missed a bite, which tore the nose up on the Fluke, so I had to go to the car to get

Bass Snatchers Platte/Sullivan Tournament June 4th Recap
The first Baxter Bass Snatcher Club tournament of the year was held on Platte and Sullivan lakes in Central Minnesota. In case you are not aware Platte/Sullivan have been my home lakes since 2003. I lived on Platte Lake from 2003 to 2005. Previous to this event I had fished 4 bass tournaments on the lake, doing terrible in 2 of them. I can't say that I was feeling any pressure, but I

Ruh Roh Quick Tourny Report
11-8 just couldn't crack 12 cause my fish were skinny. Inexplicably broke off a very good bass and I think I got a 2nd shot at her and pooched the hookset. I thought those Trokars were suppose to set themselves. Also broke a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Rod I got off Ebay this year. Thankfully St. Croix has a program so I am not screwed. St. Croix Rods Rule!!!My boater Peter put up 13+ and

Baxter Bass Snatchers Platte/Sullivan Pre-view
Tomorrow is the day, I hope it is a good one. My pre-fishing results were OK, but I didn't find any secret to big fish. I think my boater and I will catch fish, but I don't think I have anything rock solid in terms of producing fish. I am guessing it's going to take about 14-15lbs to win under the sunny conditions tomorrow, but the fishing could also possibly bust wide open and take closer to

2011 Bass Opener Day 1
It's that time!I was not a spring chicken and didn't get to the launch until after 6AM. I wasn't fishing until about 6:45AM and much to my surprise I couldn't see anyone at the spot. As I was getting set up there was a red Lund heading my way. There was a bit of a SW breeze and I got blown towards the North Shore. I ran the trolling motor to get back towards the South shore. As the boat

Some Fishing I Will Be Doing
Last year on June 25th I pulled the boat out of the water to do some work on the motor and the boat never got back in the water the rest of the year. Even though the boat is in the water right now and ready for use any time I have not fished out of it since June 25th. That will probably change later this week when some more mild temps move in.The thing is, instead of going right to the slop and

Platte/Sullivan Bass Tournament Today
Today at Noon I will get to see what the 15 boats of the Central Minnesota Bass Club can do with Platte and Sullivan. They are a team circut/club with a 5 bass limit. Provided I get them maps before blast off they should be having the weigh in at our lake place. I will really be impressed if any of the teams can top 16lbs or catch a bass over 5lbs. So far this season I think my best 5 in any

Slow Night on Sullivan
Last night I didn't get on the water until 6PM. For weather we had a pretty good rain around Noon then sprinkles and by the time I got out on the lake it was sunny and calm. I decided I was going to give Sullivan another go. Once again I stopped to fish right by the bridge as I went into Sullivan Lake, but I didn't get anything. I proceeded to fish South on the East side of the channel from

Mostly Sullivan
Today I hit the water about 6:30AM and made my way to Lake Sullivan. But before getting into Sullivan I decided to fish the channel by the bridge connecting Platte and Sullivan aka the Grumpy Old Man Hole. This is a good area for me to try throwing the Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm. I went with red shad today. Didn't get anything on the approach to the bridge, but I expected to get action in

2010 Bass Opener Part 1
28 Bass (11 to 15 inches)3 Pike6 hours (5:30-11:30AM)I was underway a little later than I thought I should be by about 15 minutes, but it didn't matter the Sullivan Platte River Outlet(PRO) river mouth was all mine for the taking and I had it for a good half hour plus until a couple of more boats showed up. I started out the morning casting the purple Berkley Frenzy Popper, but that only lasted

Two In a Row!
(Pete working his hot hole.)Yes it's true. I went out ice fishing for a 2nd day in a row and I actually caught a few fish today.Pete and I got out around 3:30PM today and we found our friend Don W. out in the sunfish spot. Don had been there since 1PM and had 4 sunnies in his bucket. We basically set up shop in the same general area as yesterday (at least Pete thought it was) and we didn't even

Yes I Did!
This is the photographic proof I was out on the ice fishing today on Sullivan Lake. The guy closest to the camera is Pete. We got out about 5PM and fished until dark. Pete caught 1 Sunfish and I got skunked. I think I had a few bites, but after 3 years off I am a bit rusty, plus we didn't have live bait and the fish seemed to be kind of fussy. The one Pete caught he got with the help of a
