Baxter Bass Snatchers Birch(Hackensack) Oct. 1st.
Conditions: Cool and clear Morning with moderate wind out of the SE growing to 15-20mph throughout the day.We blasted everybody off as we were last boat out and we went right to our planned starting spot, which was the weed flat to the SW of the public access. Nobody else went that way. I put on a Paycheck Baits Repo Man "drag stripper" and within the first 10 minutes I had 15" bass in the

The Kathio State Park Dam
There is a dam on the Rum River on the South end of Ogechie Lake in Kathio State Park. I've known this dam exists, but have never tried to fish it because I didn't feel like paying the fee to get into the park. However this year with the success I have had at the Shakopee Lake bridge over the Rum I figured I better check out what I have been missing. It's $5 for a day pass and $25 for a 1 year

Fishing with Pete & Gordy at Camp Lebanon
Pete talked me into heading out to fish with Gordy (from the Fishers of Men Fishing Club Twin Cities) today. I think we arrived at Cedar Lake in SW Morrison County a little after 4PM. The lake has fairly clear water water and it was sunny. We fished shallow in some reeds where I got this 13" largie on a big sexy color Mad Maxx frog.
We then fished up shallow along the South shore in the shade

Night on Don's Dock with Don & Pete
Went over to Don's after 7PM last night. I stuck first blood with a pike, that I thought we were giving to Don, so I put it up in his yard. Turns out Don, didn't want it, so Pete took it. Will it get cleaned or not? That is the question. Don caught a few gills and Pete got skunked. There was a nice sunset with rays coming through the clouds.

2 Trips 2 Days 3 Fish
Yesterday I headed to the Grumpy Old Man Hole around 3PM. GOM Willard was there along with another older guy. There was couple fishing the SW side and the NW side they both has a few nice orange bullheads and the guy on the NW side said he got a jumpin bullhead. I couldn't get anything. I thought I might have had something pick up the Crawtube way under the bridge, but it let go right away.

GOMH Morning Fun
I got out to the Grumpy Old Man Hole about 6:30AM and no current was moving. The water is even higher than last week and there is a sign as you go into Sullivan that asks for No Wake in Sullivan. I don't know if the lakes are all No Wake now or not. I started out fishing with a Think Tank Triggerfish on the NE side and I got this 14.75".
That was the only one I could get on topwater and

Baxter Bass Snatchers Mississippi River(Lum Park) July 31st
(Tournament Winner Dennis Lothspeich 18lbs) Conditions- Temps started in the high 60's and went up to the low 80's. Sun and light winds.I believe we blasted off around 10 to 7AM and my boater Paul and I headed upriver. On the way we got passed by 2 or 3 boats. Thankfully none of them were headed to our starting spot. Our starting spot was a fair sized backwater lake with clear water and

Smaller Than It Looks
Last night I hit up Jenny's at Sunset. I started out throwing a white Zoom Horny Toad and got this 14.25" Larry. A few casts later I had another hit, but I broke the line at the reel on the hookset. I was able to reach the line, but the fish was gone. Still I got my hook and Horny Toad back. I made a few casts with a big sexy Mad Maxx frog and had a small pike come flying out of the water on

Bass Snatcher Mississippi River(Lum Park) Pre-fish(Long)
We pre-fished on Wed July 27thI met my boater Paul at the Lum Park a little after 7AM. He showed a bit late and I took a few casts from the park beach. I did get a bite on the Crawtube, but I didn't hook into anything. Paul has the only Triton in the Baxter Bass Snatchers, almost all the other boats are Rangers.Anyway Paul said we would start off by taking a tour and we ran up river a long way

Baxter Bass Snatchers Le Homme Dieu Chain Tournament July 16th
Weather: Fortunately the forecast for brutal heat was wrong. In the morning it was quite foggy with a very light drizzle, but it was over 70 degrees. It took a couple hours for the fog to go away, but it stayed overcast until around 2 when it would switch between mostly cloudy and mostly sunny. I don't think it got out of the lower 80's during the tournament day. There was a bit of a breeze

Small Night
I had to run an errand into Onamia tonight, so naturally I made a trip up to Eddy's Jetty on Mille Lacs. As I drove up the lake I was not encouraged by the North wind that was putting good sized waves on the West shore. The waves were basically big enough to wreck any hope of topwater. I started on the South Jetty and didn't get anything. I moved to the North Jetty and was chucking a Texas rigged

Morning Shore Singles and Theft
I woke up this morning at about 5:45AM, so I decided to head out to do some fishing. The sun was already up and there wasn't a cloud in the sky and no current was moving through at the GOMH. I worked the North side and didn't get a bite. I switched to the SE side because there was a guy fishing for orange bullheads on the SW side. He was getting a few and told me he caught quite a few nice

GOMH BOOM!!!
Once again today I was up all night. I took the dog out for a walk around 5AM and it was kind of cloudy. I thought that might be good for fishing. So I grabbed a few rods and headed off to the Grumpy Old Man Hole. First lure on was the Think Tank Triggerfish and I think I missed one hit on that. Next I put on my new bluegill Lucky Craft Kelly J Jr. and right away I connected with this

Bass Snatcher Tournament Cullen Chain June 19th
Oh Man, where do I start.I really thought this tournament was lining up just right for me to do really well and it almost did. We blasted off around a quarter to 7AM in calm overcast conditions with a slight fog and drizzle. We were 2nd boat out and 2nd boat to reach the channel from Lower Cullen to Middle Cullen. The boat that was in front of us didn't quite take the right path into the channel

New To Me Rod, Jenny's and Bulldog
Today I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Lamiglas Excel Bass 735C I got on Ebay (7'3"MH). I wasn't sure when it was shipped and I didn't know if I'd have it in time for Sunday's Bass Snatcher tournament. The rod is designed for frogs and small swimbaits. At this point I want to get a feel for how it works for "Dipper Fishing," since I broke the rod I really like for that and won't replace

Float Tubing Bulldog
My last pair of waders leaked badly so I hadn't been out in my float tube for a couple of years. I got a new pair of waders this winter and so I'll be doing some float tubing this year and tonight was the first trip and I chose to go to Bulldog Lake. Bulldog is 141 acres and has a dirt access with limited trailer parking and only a few cabins on the lake. It's pretty much lined with slop almost

Cullen Chain Pre-Fish And More From Shore
Next Sunday is my 2nd Baxter Bass Snatcher tournament of the year being held on the Cullen Chain near Nisswa MN. I had the good fortune to draw Bill Bailey for my boater as he has a good history with these lakes. Bill was kind enough to agree to take me out for a day of fishing, so I could get a feel for these lakes that I had never seen before. I am extremely glad Bill took me out, because in

Quick Morning Shore Trip
I was up all night, so I decided to give things a try at first light. My first stop was at Bulldog. I got a 13.5" on a Lucky Craft Gunfish.I had a fish bite off the tail of my Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper, so I put on a Berkley Havoc Lane's Grass Pig that had been soaked in Powerbait Bass Formula. I got this 13.25" on that and a pike.Next I headed to the GOMH where I got two little jumpin

Mille Lacs Bust- Shakopee Action
Tonight I fished Eddy's Jetty at Mille Lacs. The wind was blowing out of the SE pretty good. It's been windy out of the East for 3 days now. Not even a hit. Heard from one of the Eddy's guys that someone caught a 19" smallie off the Jetty either last week or early this week when it was warm.Next I headed to the bridge over the Rum River just North of Shakopee Lake. I started tying into

Bass Snatchers Platte/Sullivan Tournament June 4th Recap
The first Baxter Bass Snatcher Club tournament of the year was held on Platte and Sullivan lakes in Central Minnesota. In case you are not aware Platte/Sullivan have been my home lakes since 2003. I lived on Platte Lake from 2003 to 2005. Previous to this event I had fished 4 bass tournaments on the lake, doing terrible in 2 of them. I can't say that I was feeling any pressure, but I
