Wading Bust
I got to thinking that wading to the East of the Grumpy Old Man Hole on Platte might be productive with the high water. I didn't get up until about 6PM today and didn't make up my mind to go fishing until about a quarter to 8PM. Since it was getting to be so late I didn't hit Jenny's and went right to the GOMH. I had the Lamiglas Excel rigged with a Spro Rojas Poppin Frog and my 2 St. Croix

Bass Snatcher Tournament Cullen Chain June 19th
Oh Man, where do I start.I really thought this tournament was lining up just right for me to do really well and it almost did. We blasted off around a quarter to 7AM in calm overcast conditions with a slight fog and drizzle. We were 2nd boat out and 2nd boat to reach the channel from Lower Cullen to Middle Cullen. The boat that was in front of us didn't quite take the right path into the channel

New To Me Rod, Jenny's and Bulldog
Today I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Lamiglas Excel Bass 735C I got on Ebay (7'3"MH). I wasn't sure when it was shipped and I didn't know if I'd have it in time for Sunday's Bass Snatcher tournament. The rod is designed for frogs and small swimbaits. At this point I want to get a feel for how it works for "Dipper Fishing," since I broke the rod I really like for that and won't replace

More Float Tubing Bulldog & Quick Hitter at Jenny's
Tonight I was out on Bulldog about 1/2 an hour longer than yesterday and caught 9 less fish. I started at the Holy Family Bingo Palace launch. I fished a little to the South, but mostly went North. I got my first fish, which was a 13.5 bass on the brown Ish's Phat Frog casting into the reeds to the South of the Access. I had a few fish hit the frog but they weren't really taking it. Follow up

Float Tubing Bulldog
My last pair of waders leaked badly so I hadn't been out in my float tube for a couple of years. I got a new pair of waders this winter and so I'll be doing some float tubing this year and tonight was the first trip and I chose to go to Bulldog Lake. Bulldog is 141 acres and has a dirt access with limited trailer parking and only a few cabins on the lake. It's pretty much lined with slop almost

Mercer Says Use Loop Knot For Slop Frogs
Can't say I've ever heard this tip before, but it does make some sense. I may give it a try, but I wonder about the knot slipping with braid. The vid is good.Update: Asked about this on several different message boards. One guy said loop knots are weak, another said this is a common tip for topwater lures. I Googled it and there were lots of results for "Loop Knot topwater." Yes, there were

Herb's Dilly Day
Today I was out on Platte Lake from about 2PM to 6:15PMConditions were overcast with W NW wind blowing 8 to 18MPHMy first stop was Jenny's from shore and I had a hit on a Sizmic Toad almost up on shore. I didn't set the hook, so I don't know if it was a bass or pike.Next I headed to the lake place and got the boat ready. I decided with the West wind to just drift the slop to the East of our lake

About An Hours Worth
Today I fished for about an hour maybe a little more.Conditions were overcast with a bit of drizzle and 10MPH winds out of the E SE.First stop was at Jenny's, nothing.Next I went to the lake to get the boat. Fished around the dock first with a white Sizmic Toad and didn't get any hits. Got the boat ready to go, only bringing 4 rods. 2x Ish Phat Frog's, 1 Sizmic Toad, and Fin-Tech Title Shot Jig

3 X 15"
Tonight I left the house a little after 5PM to go fishing. Today was sunny and in the high 60's with a fairly light NE breeze. Naturally, I stopped to fish from shore at Jenny's. I had replaced the Mad Maxx frogs with the Snaproof Ish Phat Frogs I got yesterday. On about my third cast I got a backlash and my line broke at the knot sending the "Iced Out" Phat Frog off into the lake. Being

DNF
Today was windy, cloudy, and cool so I didn't go to the lake. Tommorrow is suppose to be much nicer so I will probably get out. This morning I woke up early to put a Ebay bid on a pair of St. Croix rods that were for sale. I discovered the auction last night and thought I had a real possibility of getting a good deal. I am currently considering buying a 7' MH or H rod and these rods were both 7

Tonight on Platte with Pete
Tonight Pete and I got out for about an hours worth of fishing in the boat. I got the only fish with the "Viking" Snagproof Frog about 4 feet to the side of the end of a dock in open water. I got this fish when we were fishing close to our lake place. We closed the night fishing on the East side of the big island. Pete missed a couple of hits.I did get a chance to throw my new lime Yellow Magic

Vikings Football Vikings Frog
Tonight is the 1st Vikes Pre-season game and I got out and did some fishing with the Snagproof "Viking Frog" when I went to check to see if there was water in the Trophy (boat).Off the dock at the lake place I got about 15.5" largie. At Jenny's I started out missing 5 straight strikes, but I think I managed to catch those 2 fish plus one more. The first was a skinny 17+", the 2nd and 3rd were

Shore Nuff August 2, 2010
Tonight I went to the lake place to make sure the boat wasn't filled with water due to a couple of storms in the last few days and naturally I brought my frogging rod along to try and catch some fish. The frog tied on the end of the line was Snagproof Viking which is a purple frog with yellow in the legs. I didn't take the boat out. I only fished from shore and off the dock. On about my 3rd

Shore Mille Laction & Jenny's
Today I had to go to Onamia so I figured I'd hit up the Eddy's Jetty and try for some smallies. When I arrived at Eddy's around 5:30PM there was a little wind coming in out of the NE but not too bad. I started on the South Jetty and on my 3rd cast this 17.75" sally sacked the spinnerbait. That was the only hit on the South Jetty, and after working through several lures I went to the North

10 More Bullheads
I decided to try my luck at the "Grumpy Old Man Hole" once again tonight. I arrived at about 8:30PM and I was delighted no one was there. I started out with bubblegum Zoom Super Fluke close to the bridge and I quickly reeled in 3 smallish jumpin bullheads. I made a cast out towards the channel buoy's and landed another jumpin bullhead. One more by the bridge and I had to go to the car to get

Short Platte Trip
Tonight I got out for a little over an hour before it got dark. It was overcast with about a 3MPH wind out of the SE.My first spot was to try the biggest reed bed in Platte's big center bay. In the reeds I got the picture fish (13" largie) on a brown (sparrow) Snagproof Bobby's Perfect Frog.; Not too much later a pike stole that frog, so I tied on on red/brown Bobby's Perfect. A bass was

Bass Openers Last Stand
Since Bass Opener is always on Memorial Day Weekend I consider the MN Bass Opener to be a 3-day affair.Today I slept in and didn't start fishing until about 5PM and I fished the whole time on Platte. The day was mostly sunny but had turned to partly sunny by the time I went fishing. When I first got out winds were out of the WSW at about 7MPH, eventually it got calm for about 1/2 an hour, then

Bass Fishing Day 2
Once again today I was up early to get it AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNN. I started fishing by 6AM and didn't come off the water until nearly 4PM. It was overcast the whole time, starting with a somewhat light SE breeze that switched around to the SW and picked up to about 10mph. The action was slow but steady and I pretty much caught a few fish everywhere I went.I tried to start out with a little topwater
