Unimpressive Float Tube Fishing Trips Lately

Tonight I headed out of the house a bit after 7PM, it was cloudy warm and humid and conditions seemed right for the fish to be on. My first stop was Jenny's. Right away I got a bite but didn't hook up off to the right. I threw back and it boiled on it again. 3rd time was the charm and I brought in this skinny 16" class fish.I thought this was going to be a much smaller fish from the way it

New To Me Rod, Jenny's and Bulldog

Today I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Lamiglas Excel Bass 735C I got on Ebay (7'3"MH). I wasn't sure when it was shipped and I didn't know if I'd have it in time for Sunday's Bass Snatcher tournament. The rod is designed for frogs and small swimbaits. At this point I want to get a feel for how it works for "Dipper Fishing," since I broke the rod I really like for that and won't replace

More Float Tubing Bulldog & Quick Hitter at Jenny's

Tonight I was out on Bulldog about 1/2 an hour longer than yesterday and caught 9 less fish. I started at the Holy Family Bingo Palace launch. I fished a little to the South, but mostly went North. I got my first fish, which was a 13.5 bass on the brown Ish's Phat Frog casting into the reeds to the South of the Access. I had a few fish hit the frog but they weren't really taking it. Follow up

Float Tubing Bulldog

My last pair of waders leaked badly so I hadn't been out in my float tube for a couple of years. I got a new pair of waders this winter and so I'll be doing some float tubing this year and tonight was the first trip and I chose to go to Bulldog Lake. Bulldog is 141 acres and has a dirt access with limited trailer parking and only a few cabins on the lake. It's pretty much lined with slop almost

Cullen Chain Pre-Fish And More From Shore

Next Sunday is my 2nd Baxter Bass Snatcher tournament of the year being held on the Cullen Chain near Nisswa MN. I had the good fortune to draw Bill Bailey for my boater as he has a good history with these lakes. Bill was kind enough to agree to take me out for a day of fishing, so I could get a feel for these lakes that I had never seen before. I am extremely glad Bill took me out, because in

Quick Morning Shore Trip

I was up all night, so I decided to give things a try at first light. My first stop was at Bulldog. I got a 13.5" on a Lucky Craft Gunfish.I had a fish bite off the tail of my Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper, so I put on a Berkley Havoc Lane's Grass Pig that had been soaked in Powerbait Bass Formula. I got this 13.25" on that and a pike.Next I headed to the GOMH where I got two little jumpin

Not Rockin!

Three consecutive days of Skunk. I think I missed a hit on both Tues. and Wed., but tonight I didn't even get a bite.Off to a slow start this year and the weather which has been sucky for a week plus isn't going to take a turn for the better until Easter Sunday. Hopefully some bullheads will show up then. Maybe I'll do something about getting the boat ready next week if the weather shapes up.

Platte Dock, Bulldog, GOMH

Platte Dock:Tonight just after 7PM I headed over to our lake place to get my gear ready to go for tomorrow morning. Naturally I had to throw a few casts off the dock. Casting over towards our jerk neighbors dock I got these two fish.I had a few other good bites casting that direction but didn't hook up. I think several of the bites were from a pike because the Zoom Super Flukes were getting

Evening GOMH & Bulldog

Today we put the dock in at the lake place and I observed bass spawning. 3 big one's actually.Tonight I got out just before 8PM and headed to the GOMH. Once again it was swim jigs with 3 rods rigged up with them.I started out by catching 3 jumpin bullheads and a toothy bullhead on the SE side along with several missed bites.I got 2 jumpin bullheads on the NW side. I fished there cause there

Morning GOMH & Bulldog

This morning from about 5:45AM to 6:45AM I took a quick shore fishing trip. First spot was the "Grumpy Old Man Hole" and I caught 4 jumpin bullheads and missed a couple of more of them along with 2 toothy bullheads that I had hooked up but got off. All the fish came from the SE side and disappointingly I got nothing on the NE side. I saw a big carp swimming by on the NE side. I got fish on

Morning GOMH, Bulldog, Rock

Grumpy Old Man Hole:I got 12 jumpin bullheads and the 6 toothy bullheads in pictures. All on swim jigs. I probably missed 2 or 3 more pike. The last 2 were the biggest. Bulldog Lake: I think the same pike got caught twice. Had to take a picture of the dink. Caught 11 bass from 8" to 13" on Bulldog on Swim Jigs. Missed a few hits.I also fished the Rock Dock and caught one small bass on my

No Wind, No Good!!!

Just like 2 years ago there was no wind at Eddy's Jetty on Mille Lacs and once again just like then, I got skunked. 3 or 4 eyes were caught by a group of 3 guys who were flinging clown Rapala Husky Jerks. Around 4AM a light breeze came up out of the SE, but it was to little to late for me. I had a minnow or leech on a lot of the time thinking that cranks just wouldn't go.Grumpy Old Man Hole:

A Little Better Bite...

Once again today it was windy and it was cooler than it has been in a few days, but 57°F is still 2 degrees above average. I think the warm weather we have been having is starting to have an effect and the fishing is improving.Today I got out around 5PM and got 2 bass while trying for Dogfish at Bulldog. I then went to Rock and it was dead, the Rock Dock still not in. Went back to Bulldog

It's Slow...

Today it got to 70, but the wind was blowing hard again out of the SE so things are not warming up as quickly as they would with less wind. Anyway I did catch fish. The first was this 19.75" hawg from Bulldog Lake.It bit on a brown grub and was the only fish I got at Bulldog. This is the longest bass I have caught in at least the last 2 years. The wind was blowing in at Rock and I caught
